The five body shapes
Most style guides use five shapes. Each one describes how your bust or chest, waist and hips relate to each other, not your size or weight.
- HourglassBust and hips about the same width, with a clearly narrower waist.
- PearHips noticeably wider than the bust or chest.
- AppleThe middle is the widest, or nearly widest, part of the body.
- RectangleBust or chest, waist and hips fairly similar, with little waist definition.
- Inverted triangleShoulders and bust or chest clearly wider than the hips.
